Sherman D. Gillespie, age 69, was born December 25, 1949 in Athens, TN to Cletus Franklin and Viginia Jo Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Cleta J. Walls, brother; Thomas C. Gillespie, Sr., wife; Ivy Jean Kilgore-Gillespie and life long friend; Glenn Witt.
On September 11, 2019 Sherman Dwight Gillespie, surrounded by all of his family, was peacefully swept up and brought into the comforting arms of His Lord and Savior. Where he is free from all pain and illness he has been made whole and given the ability to be with everyone he loves at the exact same time. Just as he always wanted it.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife; Eva C. Gillespie, 5 children; Kevin, Traci (Victor), Maine “Du”, Brooke and Sian-Sherman (Angela), 19 grandchildren; Devon, Mykael, Anton “Rudy”, Domonique, Paris, Kevin, Jr., Shamila, Schanika, Marquis, Montreon, Mehki, Andreas “AJ” (Abrina), Shawn, Brooklyn, Tishara, Candice, Keion, Sian-Sherman,III, Aasim Thomas, 14 great grandchildren; Anton, Jr., LeVian, Legacy, Nasir, Azai, Olivia Monae, Omari Keelan, Miyah, Mykael, Jamarius, Aubri, Alijah, Nyla, Journey, Keionna and Keion, Jr., Special friends; Darnell LaGrone, Calvin Whitley, Emmitt Davis, Jeffery Perkins and Clyde Sims, MORE than a host of cousins and friends. Sherman loved everyone and he got that love in return. He saw and received his flowers while he was here to enjoy them!!!!

Visitation Monday, September 16, 2019 1-5 PM at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 513 Henry, and Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 1-5 PM at First Community AME Church, 500 James st. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 227 Fulton, 10:00 am Family Hour 11:00 am Funeral service
