Obituary

Gaylord Ray Love Jr Life Story

On Wednesday, July 21, 1948 an Earth Angel was born to the late Gaylord Ray Love Sr and Teressa Love and he was named Gaylord Ray Love Jr. He was the fourth eldest of seven children. Gaylord was educated in the Grand Rapids Public School System and Calvin College where received his Associates Degree studying in history and finance.

Gaylord loved working with youth. He held several jobs at one time, which includes being the Resident Assistant with the Grand Valley Upward Bound Program, Director of the Recreation Department, Summer Youth Program GRASP Coordinator which is a Summer Math and Reading Correspondence Program. He was employed by the Grand Rapids Public School System as a Safety Officer where he gave his service to GRPS since the mid-70’s. He loved being a safety officer so much that it spanned over 30 years protecting students that also included his siblings, his children, and grandchildren. He retired due to an injury to his foot in the early 2000’s.

He was an educated man who made sure his children, nieces, and nephews never missed a beat. He took time to tutor each of them when needed. The impact that he made to all the children in the family and neighborhood was profound. He expressed the importance of education, family and having a passion for something. He extremely supportive and proud of each our passions. From encouraging each and everyone to never give up on our dreams.

Gaylord had a deep joy for the arts. He had so many talents but some of his favorites include drawing, playing ball and fishing. His love for music was well known and requested by many. He was known by many for his great singing and whistling. At Spectrum Health Nursing Home (The Dunes), they turned the karaoke into his monthly gig to sing to the masses. Even in his final days at the Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital, he kept reminded the staff that he had to back to gig

Gaylord has always had a love for Christ it was in 1998 when he recommitted his life to the Lord and united with Knowledge of Truth Church of God In Christ which is under the pastorate of his on Pastor Troy Evans where he served as Deacon and one of them most faithful members.

Preceding him death along with parents were his grandmother, Cassie Washington; uncle, Jonathan Greer; brother, Virgil Love and his sister, Shirley Noble.

Gaylord leaves to carry on his legacy: his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Linda Love; 3 sons, Mark (Shantae) Evans, Pastor Troy (LaDawn) Evans, and Raymond (Rachel) Love; 2 daughters, Dr. Lisa Marie (Bishop Eric) Barnes, and Teressa Hawkins Love all of Grand Rapids, MI. 5 brothers: Orval (Ann) Badger of San Leandro, CA; Larry (Marsha) Love of Grand Rapids, MI; Robert Evans of Denver, CO; Parker C.
