Life ReflectionsJohn Jefferson, Jr., was born July 19, 1925 in Starkville, MS to the union of John Jefferson, Sr. and Tressie(Jones) Jefferson, both of whom preceded him in death. John was one of four children born to this union. John was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Thelma Smith and a brother, Houston Jefferson.John married the love of his life, Lula Mary Williams on August 13, 1955. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and treated each year as though it was the first one. John modeled for all, especially his sons, faithfulness in marriage, hard work and service.John was employed and retired from General Motors in Grand Rapids, MI after 41 years. While work was important, love of Christ and his family was most important. John professed his faith at an early age, serving at his church in Mississippi until moving to Michigan and joining New Hope Baptist Church in the early 1950s. John was a quiet, but diligent servant of God. He actively and faithfully served in several ministries at New Hope, including the Trustee Board, Transportation Ministry, and Food Bank Ministry.John will be remembered by his tall stature, dapper attire, quiet demeanor, and as a great storyteller; but, most of all, he will be remembered as a faithful servant and attentive husband, father, and friend. He will bemissed by many. John entered into his eternal rest on April 7, 2021 at the age of 95. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Lula; sons Mark Jefferson, Renard Jefferson, Kevin (Kathee) Jefferson, Corey (Kimberley) Jefferson, and a sister, Adell Walker. He also leaves to cherish his memory six grandchildren, Shawntika Chapman, Kyle Jefferson, Kourtni Steorts, Kramer Jefferson, Peyton Jefferson, and Kendell Jefferson; as well as a host of great grandchildren, family, and friends all of whom will keep hismemory and legacy alive

I grew up in the neighborhood and played many a whiffle ball game in Mr. Jefferson's driveway with his son Corey and the other neighborhood kids. Never did I ever see him get angry and we did some pretty crazy things! His stories about moving to Grand Rapids in the 1950's were neat to hear. Truly a great man and someone we should strive to be like.

John was a great neighbor to us for 24 years in Kentwood. He was a quiet, kind man with a wonderful laugh who took great pride in his house and yard. We will miss delivering blueberry zucchini bread to him for his birthday. Our deepest sympathy to Lu and the family.
